Certainly, the town's cultural events are older than the summer shows organized by amateur cultural and artistic societies and individuals as well as those who generally organise and develop cultural activities in the small centres. 18th Vis swimming marathon was organised on Saturday, 20th of August. To celebrate the Assumption of Our Lady holiday on 15th August, the 2,200 metre long international swimming marathon takes place from the island of Host to Carinski gat pier on the waterfront. The marathon takes place on the first Saturday after the holiday. The Vis marathon is also included in the Croatian Association calendar of Remote Swimming events (By www.tz-vis.hr).
